Betting picks October 2: Football, Champions League, group stage, matchday 2

UEFA Champions League is on again, and if you thought you saw some great football in the first matchday of the group stage, I’m only going to tell you this – you ain’t seen nothing yet!

Manchester United, Chelsea, FC Barcelona, Juventus and Bayern Munich are the stars of Tuesday night football, but if you have trouble deciding exactly what to wager on today, here are our betting picks, offered in collaboration with our good friends from Bwin:

1. FC Nordsjaelland – Chelsea pick: Chelsea 1.33 odds

The Danish champions are by far the most exotic team to have made it in this year’s group stage of UCL, and, while we don’t judge a team’s potential by its name, it’s pretty obvious that Nordsjaelland doesn’t belong here.

After a 0-2 loss against Shakhtar, they’ll have an even tougher job at home, against Chelsea, the European champions of last year and the current undefeated Premiership leaders.

2. Juventus – Shakhtar pick: Juventus 1.50 odds

Despite probably being the strongest team in Eastern Europe right now, the Ukrainian champions don’t have the force to stand in Juventus’ way. The Italians have been more than impressive these past weeks, leading Serie A with 16 points after six games (only three goals received), and drawing in London, against Chelsea, in the UCL matchday 1.

3. Valencia – Lille under 2.5 goals 2.00 odds

Group F got very tangled after the first matchday, when Bate Borisov won against Lille, in France. Now there are three teams battling it out for the number two spot in the group, with Bayern still being favorites for the first place.

Two of the three teams that hope to finish second will go against each other in Spain, and, while we’re expecting a very evenly matched contest, we don’t see Valencia and Lille capable of scoring that many goals. The Spaniards have scored eight times in the first six rounds of Primera Division, while the French have also scored eight times, but in only seven games.

4. Bate Borisov – Bayern Munich Bayern wins, 1.30 odds

Even after defeating Lille in an away match, Bate Borisov is still viewed as a sure victim for Bayern Munich, the current undefeated leaders of Bundesliga. The Germans are not only undefeated, but they’ve also avoided draws so far in six games, scoring no less than 19 times and receiving only two goals.

Total odds: 5.19      Recommended stakes: $10    Potential wins: $51.90
